MuirMcNeil Triode-U is a collection of 38 pattern and texture fonts created as an optional extension to MuirMcNeil Triode, a modular geometric type system available separately.

With shared character widths and spacing, every Triode-U font can be layered in combination with others while remaining perfectly aligned. Precisely calibrated weights ensure complete compatibility across the entire Triode and Triode-U collection, opening up a broad range of new compositional and textural possibilities.

The Triode system investigates reciprocal relationships between form and counterform using a rhythmic framework of visual components aligned to the baseline and x-height of almost every character. Building on principles explored in several other MuirMcNeil type systems, these recurring structures shape words that are open to multiple visual readings while remaining as recognisable and readable as the underlying constraints permit.

Positioned at the threshold between reading and looking, the Triode design occupies a point at which language begins to function as pattern and pattern begins to recover the qualities of language.
